They are about style alone and don't do anything particularly well for sighting that cannot be done better with a partridge front and wide, shallow, open or aperture rear sight. P.JB may be too fine, depending on how rough the bore actually is. 320 grit Clover compound is good as is fine valve grinding compound. If the bore shows reamer marks across the rifling that may be the problem. If it's smooth then it's something else wrong, like the lube. As mentioned, check the patches for being cut.32 Cal. A twist rate of 1 in 48 is considered a general compromise, supposedly capable of accurately throwing either a patched roundball or a conical projectile. Doesn't matter if the caliber is .32 or .62. However, like most "generalists", this twist rate probably is not the best for either roundball or conical.I got it home and it was a .50 cal.,, CVA frontier in great shape with a ball stuck about 3 inches from the breech. I have had one for years in 54 caliber, which has a 1-65 twist barrel. Mine shoots a patched round ball OR a Hornady GP conical very accurately.It is way easier than most folks that haven't pulled a load before realize to pull a load with a ball puller, especially on a clean barrel. If you don't already have one, get one with the brass ring that keeps the screw centered in the barrel. Screw it in and pull it. It will come out easy if the barrel was clean when it was loaded. As far as stripping, most of the old bluing was badly worn and almost off. I used progressive papers, 400, 600, 1,000 and 1,500 grit. Degreased with Dawn dish soap and water, rinsed, dried and further degreased with acetone. Applied Van's gun bluing (cold bluing) bought direct from their website.This is a matter of leverage so, moving the pivot point closer to the sear arm (usually moving it rearward towards the butt of the gun) or, bending the sear arm so it makes contact with the trigger blade is the only fix. Bending the arm on the sear has it's risks. The nose of the sear is hardened and somewhat brittle.Turn it with an electric drill, and run the emery up and down the barrel a couple of hundred times; that should remove a lot of the pits unless they are very deep. Change the emery often to keep it sharp. Finish up with very fine emery to polish.
